Classical Yoga provides the philosophical
and spiritual framework; Iyengar Yoga offers an anatomically
precise and methodical approach to the physics of asana; Ashtanga
Vinyasa Yoga imparts grace, stamina and an eloquent sense
of flow to its practitioner; and Anusara Yoga offers invaluable
insights on how correct physical alignment enables the practitioner
to tap into a reservoir of spiritual power.
Mariko brings a unique synthesis of the best of these traditions
supported by the grace of her teachers and the power of sadhana
(spiritual practice).
Mariko received initiation from her spiritual preceptor, Gurumayi
Chidvilasananda, in 1991, and has since been guided to study
with great teachers and Masters of the Yoga Tradition. They
include: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sri Vijayeshwari Devi (Karunamayi),
Swami Dayananda Saraswathi, and Sri Jamuna Giri of Mysore.
In addition to her training in Yoga, Mariko has devoted time
to study the ancient medical science of Ayurveda, both in
the United States as well as in India. She holds the Diploma
of Ayurveda from the International Institute of Ayurveda.
She has studied with Ayurvedic Doctors of the highest caliber,
including Drs. Vasant Lad, Subash Ranade, Avinash and Bharati
Lele of Pune, India.
Currently, Mariko is engaged in full-time study of Ayurveda
as a fellowship scholar at the Gujarat Ayurveda University
in Gujarat, India.
Mariko conducts classes and workshops in New York City in
the months of May, June, and July and leads retreats in India
in the months of November, December, or January. |
